The Alhambra 9P Classical Guitar features very well-balanced projection of treble and bass strings, and is also designed for comfort and optimal playability. Handmade in Spain, this instrument is available in both spruce and cedar. (Click here to hear the pronunciation of "Alhambra".) The 9P is basically identical to the 8P other than it's body depth is 5mm greater, has a different rosette, and the 9P features the ErgoNeck.

But richness is not the only thing: The action is also just perfect: high enough to make the guitar sing but extremely comfortable. The sound projection is amazing. Basses, mediums and trebles are very well-balanced. You have a full control of the voices and can emphasize whatever voice you want without any struggle, therefore you become the conductor and have a complete orchestra under your fingers.

The Alhambra 9P features Alhambra's ErgoNeck. The ErgoNeck is the result of the continuous research developed by Alhambra Manufactures to improve the ergonomics of the neck. Thus, we can favor the position of the left hand. Due to its asymmetric shape, the ErgoNeck can be adapted in a more natural way to the guitarist. (See illustration above.)

Recommended Strings: This guitar comes with D'Addario EXP44 Extra Hard Tension strings installed. These are not bad strings, but don't allow the guitar to live up to its full potential. I recommend the following strings for this guitar:

Carbon: My favorite strings of all I've tried are Savarez Alliance set 540J. These strings provide great volume and resonance. Being Carbon, they are a bit thinner in diameter than nylon strings. The tone is brighter and not as mellow as nylon strings. If you want a softer sound, nylon may suit you better.

Nylon: For nylon strings, I really like Savarez Corum New Cristal set 500CJ strings. They provide a nice round tone, good volume, and a comfortable feel.

IMPORTANT: This guitar features a 12-hole bridge. This design puts the strings at a higher angle relative to the saddle, allowing a greater transfer of energy into the top of the guitar at the saddle. This gives this guitar extra volume and resonance. It is very important that the strings are tied properly to prevent slipping. My Alhambra Cedar 9P

I've been playing my one Classical Guitar for over 49 years.
During those years I toured a major guitar factory in El Cajon, CA., twice, to learn how guitars are made and the new technology used in making guitars today.
For my birthday this year I wanted a new Classical Guitar, but I wanted one made in Spain.
After looking at the many guitar manufacturers in Spain, I chose Alhambra Guitarras because they seemed to apply the new technology along with keeping the past art form of making a quality guitar.
Through the Alhambra website I found XGuitars as a distributor.
The next step for me was choosing a sound that I liked.
Both the Alhambra and XGuitars websites provided me with several listening choices, through sound clips and videos.
The Alhambra 9P Cedar seemed to create the exact sound I was looking for, so I ordered my new guitar from XGuitars.
When my guitar arrived, in perfect condition, I had to look at the beautiful case for over 4 hours, as suggested, since it arrived during cold weather. Finally, I opened the guitar case was impressed by the beauty and craftmanship of the guitar.
After playing the guitar, the sound of the Alhambra 9P is the warm full sound I was looking for, a perfect choice for me.

I'm not sure how the strings were broken! This can sometimes happen during transit if the temperature is very cold. I carefully inspected it here, measured the action, intonation, and many other things and it was perfect when it left my office in North Carolina.

As of now, I will considerably loosen the string tension on all guitars shipped from XGuitars so that this doesn't happen to anyone else. Please let me know your preferred strings and I will send you a set at no charge.

I purchased an Alhambra 9P and am very happy with it. I had never purchased a guitar without playing it first, so I was a bit nervous. But, Geoff at Xguitars was great.
