German Vazquez Rubio (also known as G.V. Rubio) is a prestigious and talented luthier. He has developed his signature sound throughout his career, which guitarists have come to love. The German approach to selecting materials and construction is organic, yet unorthodox, as he understands how wood ages. As a result of repairing and restoring countless high-end guitars, he has developed designs that are designed to last a lifetime.

From Woodwork to Limitless Sounds

During his time at his uncle's shop, German Vazquez Rubio learned how to work with various types of woods and materials. It was taught to him that the most precious woods require the greatest of attention and care because there are no margins for error in craftsmanship. Slowly, his uncle Manuel taught him how different types of wood react to knife cuts differently. As a result, his construction style has become characterized by precise techniques.

German settled in Los Angeles in the early 1970s, and he continues to live there to this day. He began working at Arturo Valdez's Hollywood shop. The place would let him hone not only his skills as a builder, but as an expert repairman as well. As a luthier, German believes that being able to do all types of repairs is very important. "It develops your imagination, I think it is crucial to have a good imagination in this line of work. Aged German Vazquez Rubio guitars that have been highly used give you insight into the limits of the material and help you in creating designs that consider those limitations. I strive to build guitars that live one hundred years or more."
