Every guitar is given a professional setup and a thorough 19-point inspection including playing through every note, adjusting saddle & nut heights, checking neck relief, fret ends, tuning mechanisms, finish, and more. Also, all guitars at XGuitars are kept at the perfect humidity and temperature to prevent hidden cracks, sharp frets, warped necks, etc.

The Alhambra 9P Classical Guitar features very well-balanced projection of treble and bass strings, and is also designed for comfort and optimal playability. Handmade in Spain, this instrument is available in both spruce and cedar. (Click here to hear the pronunciation of "Alhambra".) The 9P is basically identical to the 8P other than it's body depth is 5mm greater, has a different rosette, and the 8P features the ErgoNeck.

But richness is not the only thing: The action is also just perfect: high enough to make the guitar sing but extremely comfortable. The sound projection is amazing. Basses, mediums and trebles are very well-balanced. You have a full control of the voices and can emphasize whatever voice you want without any struggle, therefore you become the conductor and have a complete orchestra under your fingers.

The Alhambra 9P features Alhambra's ErgoNeck. The ErgoNeck is the result of the continuous research developed by Alhambra Manufactures to improve the ergonomics of the neck. Thus, we can favor the position of the left hand. Due to its asymmetric shape, the ErgoNeck can be adapted in a more natural way to the guitarist. (See illustration above.)

Recommended Strings: This guitar comes with D'Addario EXP44 Extra Hard Tension strings installed. These are not bad strings, but don't allow the guitar to live up to its full potential. I recommend the following strings for this guitar:

Carbon: My favorite strings of all I've tried are Savarez Alliance set 540J. These strings provide great volume and resonance. Being Carbon, they are a bit thinner in diameter than nylon strings. The tone is brighter and not as mellow as nylon strings. If you want a softer sound, nylon may suit you better.

Nylon: For nylon strings, I really like Savarez Corum New Cristal set 500CJ stings. They provide a nice round tone, good volume, and a comfortable feel.

I'm not sure how the strings were broken! This can sometimes happen during transit if the temperature is very cold. I carefully inspected it here, measured the action, intonation, and many other things and it was perfect when it left my office in North Carolina.

As of now, I will considerably loosen the string tension on all guitars shipped from XGuitars so that this doesn't happen to anyone else. Please let me know your preferred strings and I will send you a set at no charge.

Alhambra 9P

I purchased an Alhambra 9P and am very happy with it. I had never purchased a guitar without playing it first, so I was a bit nervous. But, Geoff at Xguitars was great. While negotiating my purchase, I mentioned that I was searching other dealers as well. He had nothing but good things to say about his competitors. That attitude impressed me very much. He gave me a great deal along with great customer service. He always returned my calls and kept me informed throughout the process. I would definitely buy from Geoff again.

The guitar is just incredible

The guitar is just incredible as I said in my previous review. I am a beginner Classical guitar player ( 4 years of study) Previously a Flautist. I own several other guitars, this is simply the best for my level. So I recommend this guitar to anyone. I can't stop playing it. The issue with USPS is that they delivered a day after they were supposed to deliver. This has nothing to do with XGuitars. The service provided by XGuitars was flawless and excellent.

Just what I was looking for

After beginning on a steel string, I was looking for a Classical and found Xguitars. I am not a guitar collector and wanted an instrument that I would not be wanting to soon upgrade. Geoff suggested several alternatives including the Alhambra 9p. After additional research, I selected it, with the Savarez 540j strings installed and the Alhambra VGV Case. I have played it almost exclusively for 5 months and have to say it is the perfect fit for me. My instructor thinks it was setup perfectly and sounds better than his custom luthier guitar. I love the sound of the cedar top.

Geoff's string installation is a work of art. I took multiple pictures so when it came time for me to replace them, I could duplicate his install.

I certainly appreciated being able to discuss my needs with a well informed professional and would not hesitate to purchase from Xguitars again. Thanks for the great service!
