1929 Francisco Simplicio
SOLD
One of the most highly regarded Spanish guitar makers of the 20th century, Francisco Simplicio was born in Barcelona, Spain in 1874. First working as a cabinet maker, then as an assistant to the famous guitar luthier, Enrique Garcia. When Garcia passed away in 1922, Francisco Simplicio became the owner of the famous shop and soon won the prestigious prize at the International Exposition of Barcelona, Spain.
This guitar features a remarkable Spruce top and quilted Cuban Mahogany sides and back. The Ebony headstock is highly carved and is adorned with the original tuning machines. This is a truly remarkable collector’s guitar.
This guitar originally belonged to the Argentine professional guitarist Lucia Sanchez Jordan. The guitar was bequeathed to her from her teacher, whom we do not know.
In the 1990’s it was acquired by Andy Danser, who then did restoration work for Beverly Maher, owner of the Guitar Salon in NYC. The repairs appear to be very well done, and the include a small cleat for a top crack, and some glue added to the side joints and back seam. The finish appears to be vintage. Considering this guitar’s age, it is a beautiful playing and sounding instrument that is in remarkable condition. A perfect addition to a historical collection of guitars.
