Note: The wood grain on these guitars varies greatly from one instrument to the next. The guitar shown in these photos is not the exact instrument you would receive. For photos of the exact instrument you would receive, please Click Here to contact us.

Similar to the 4P model in construction and style, the Alhambra 4Z is unique from 4P in that it is made with the beautiful Ziricote wood. The unique grain of the wood creates a lovely aesthetic for the instrument. (Click here to hear the pronunciation of "Alhambra".)

Recommended Strings: This guitar comes with D'Addario EXP44 Extra Hard Tension strings installed.  These are not bad strings, but don't allow the guitar to live up to its full potential.  I recommend the following strings for this guitar:

Carbon: My favorite strings of all I've tried are Savarez Alliance set 540J. These strings provide great volume and resonance.  Being Carbon, they are a bit thinner in diameter than nylon strings. The tone is brighter and not as mellow as nylon strings. If you want a softer sound, nylon may suit you better.

Nylon: For nylon strings, I really like Savarez Corum New Cristal set 500CJ stings.  They provide a nice round tone, good volume, and a comfortable feel.

If you would like to have strings installed other than the ones that come with your guitar, you can add the Strings Installation Service to your order.

Alhambra 4 Z

I would like to say thank you for balancing the action on this guitar. I really like how the neck is slightly narrow like a cross over classical guitar. It’s also suitable for those who have small hands even though the scale is standard so you won’t have to worry about your hands cramping on the frets as you move through positions. The neck is also straight which is very important! The 4z is also nice and bright but also has a cedar sound board which helps it balance the brightness as well. You could easily play flamenco on this guitar if you are looking for a versatile guitar. Baroque guitar music sounds great on this model as well. Most eras are suitable for this guitar which is great!!

Unexpectedly rich sound, and beautiful wood.

I build acoustic guitars in Santa Cruz, but not classical. I bought this for a friend, as she didn't really know what to get. It was a long search, and well worth it to find this guitar., Sounds better than mt Cordoba 45CO, which hurts a little, as I can only imagine it getting better as the top opens up from playing. Highly recommend this guitar!

Alhambra 4Z Ziricote

I recently purchased the Alhambra 4Z Ziricote from Geoff and XGuitars for my grandson who is a budding classical guitarist (but, was playing on a Yamaha steel string). In summary, we could not be happier or more pleased with both the guitar and purchasing experience. Geoff spent a great deal of time explaining the individual attributes of each Alhambra model. Once we narrowed it down to the 4Z, he sent a number of photos so we could choose the exact guitar we wanted. It arrived promptly and in perfect condition. Truly, a work of art. For the past thirty-two years, I have enjoyed being a member of an acoustic duo that has weekly gigs (of course, the pandemic changed that). Thus, I have purchased 30 plus guitars over the years. Without hesitation, I share that this is the best guitar buying experience I have ever had, with no exception....thanks so much, Geoff!

Alhambra 4Z: Great guitar and flawless XGuitars transaction

Thank you, Geoff and XGuitars. As you say on your website, you aim for flawless transactions. Well, my purchase of an Alhambra 4Z from you certainly attests to your high level of musical instrument knowledge, set-up capability, and customer service. I've had the 4Z for a week now and I've played it joyfully every day - maybe not perfectly, mind you - but joyfully. I was searching for a well-built, reasonably priced, new student level classical guitar with some historical connections to Spanish guitar building, unique species of sustainably used laminate/veneer woods of construction for back and sides, solid cedar top, capable of increasingly good tone as the hands and ears are re-trained, and the ability to handle the variable heat and humidity of the Southeastern United States. You patiently answered all my questions pre-sale and even sent photos of the actual 4Z you had in stock so I could see the perfectly book-matched ziricote grain patterns on the specific instrument I was purchasing. The guitar was very well packed for shipment. Not only was there no damage after 3 days on the road, but the guitar inside the TKL Alhambra-logo case was actually cooler and drier than the hot humid conditions in which it traveled. I appreciated your 19 point checklist sign-off and the recording of the customized set-up parameters on the included paperwork. I have to admit I retrieved my luthier tools and measured string heights, neck relief, nut and saddle, and basically went through the checklist again as a way of getting to know the instrument. I even spot checked intonation and harmonics with an electronic tuner and my ears and I just kept smiling - all good. You did a superb job in set-up and prep work - my goodness, the instrument was spotless and fingerprint-less and I could even measure the 0.1mm delta you carefully crafted into the saddle height between the treble and bass side. Thank you for supporting this musical adventure with the Alhambra 4Z. I look forward to being a long time customer. dh
